Flying Monkeys

February 02, 2012

Imagine, if you can, that you had never seen the film and one day you discover, lying in a room somewhere, a book called ‘The Wizard of Oz’.  You pick it up.  But you only read the title, then put it back down and leave the room.  So what would you know about that book?  Probably that it’s a story about a wizard; and it looks like he stays in a place called Oz.  That’s all the title would give you.

A wizard that stays in Oz.  Pretty dull.

What would you miss?  Dorothy, Toto, munchkins, ruby slippers, a flying house, the Wicked Witch of the East, the Wicked Witch of the West, Tin Man (Love), Scarecrow (Wisdom), Lion (Courage) and the Yellow Brick Road (Life).   You would even miss the flying monkeys!

“Never judge a book by its cover”.

It makes you think.  Society has developed a bad habit of judging a person by their book title.

Sometimes when you scratch the surface people can reveal the most amazing warmth, feistiness, stories and talents.  But you can only experience a person at that level when you open the book and read.

So we have a choice of going through life knowing merely book titles; or of finding out the stories.

Wonderful stories.

Follow the yellow brick road......

Yes, it's all in there - life with love, wisdom and courage found in the unlikeliest places and discovering what's really important! Well identified, Sleeping Giant!
