Nature

May 17, 2011

Here’s a great short movie by Pamela Spence who is the resident medical herbalist at Carrick Clinic.  Pamela is an expert in her field and has recently been busy making a series of films and articles that are both informative and interesting - especially if you don’t know much about herbal remedies - they are an ideal introduction.  For more details please see here.

We seem to rely on manufactured drugs these days (there’s a pill for everything!) despite the fact that relative to the history of the world, modern medicine has only existed for a short period of time.  For centuries before our ancestors used remedies sourced naturally.   I fully appreciate the need for modern medicine - but alongside complimentary natural remedies.  By combining the two you are gaining the advantage of technology whilst naturally healing at the same time.

It is heartening that there seems to be a trend emerging as major beauty and pharmaceutical companies are increasingly launching products that utilise berries and other plants to prevent wrinkles and treat diseases.  Even manufactured drug companies seem to be re-appreciating benefits that are naturally available.

Perhaps we are coming full circle.  The speed of technological advancement over the past 20 years has caused us to become a bit disconnected with nature - we may have shifted too far into the artificial intelligence it offers at a cost.  National Geographic magazine picked up on this after the 2004 Boxing Day tsunami, suggesting that animals sensed the disaster was imminent and fled before it happened – because they are still in tune with nature.   It’s an interesting article and still available online here.
