What is hypnotherapy?

Clinical hypnotherapy uses the safe and natural state of hypnosis as a means of working at a deeper level of consciousness to make positive life enhancing changes.  Our minds contain some information we are not consciously aware of which has been recorded during life to form our beliefs, habits and behaviours.  This information is stored unconsciously alongside fundamental automatic behaviours such as breathing and digestion.  The root of underlying restrictive beliefs or unwanted habits is also stored unconsciously, making them difficult to access or change, and this is why we often try to consciously change a habit without success.  This is where hypnotherapy can make a difference.

During hypnosis this unconscious information becomes accessible to you allowing changes to be made.  You retain full control of the process throughout and will only make changes you feel comfortable with at the time. Positive aspects about ourselves that we may be unaware of can also be accessed under hypnosis so that strengths and skills we have forgotten about can be rediscovered.

Through the hypnotherapy process we can therefore gain insight, make changes and maximise our potential.

Frequently asked questions

What is hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a completely natural state of mind which is the midpoint between being fully awake and asleep – it is similar to what we experience whilst daydreaming.

Will I lose control under hypnosis?

No – although very relaxed, you retain full control and will only make changes that you are fully comfortable with.  Providing you are working with a qualified professional, hypnosis is perfectly safe – if in doubt check the credentials of your therapist.

Can hypnosis make me do something against my will?

No – clinical hypnotherapy focuses on therapeutic purposes and is therefore completely different to stage hypnosis.

Testimonials

Stress Management

I’d been under a lot of pressure as I was juggling full-time work and study and Leigh was recommended to me by a friend. I found our sessions for stress management enormously helpful and really liked the ‘Relax & Refresh’ CD she suggested as well.  It’s been a fantastic combination and I make good use of the CD on a regular basis.  I’ve seen a massive improvement in my overall quality of life which I can honestly attribute to Leigh’s input.  The overall experience has been amazing – so much so that I didn’t hesitate to contact Leigh for some pre-natal hypnotherapy when I was pregnant with my first baby!  Brilliant!  10/10!
